American League baseball is a fraud.

Way, way back before there was a nominally major league team in Seattle I was a Dodger fan. Mostly because my city had a Dodger minor league affiliate team. Now, though, I might be siding with the Cubs. It’s their turn. Besides, I was in Chicago in 1984 when they made a run and it was a lot of fun.

Cubs ownership donated $1,000,000 to elect Donald Trump .
Go Dodgers.

I lived in Chicago back in the mid-70s, before the lights. I remember the days at school when somebody would say, “Where’s Johnny today?” And somebody would say, “His dad took him to a Cubs game.” Back when you still got to miss school to take in a baseball game. I came home from school and watched games on WGN until my mom got home. So, regardless of what happens, I’m happy. This was good baseball.

Then I suggest you get some pitchers. Or pitching, whichever.

I saw one game at a lightless Wrigley. Ironically it was against the Dodgers. I don’t remember who won but I still remember the baby back ribs we had afterward.

Cubs ownership? Or Tom Ricketts’ father?

Despite the years I lived in Chicago as a kid, I never made it to a game. I finally made it to one in the early 90s when I went up to audition for the Chicago Symphony (I didn’t get the gig). It was early April, cold as hell, and I went to the game with another trumpet player from Oklahoma City. By the time we got to our seats in right field (yes, the bleachers, dammit), the sun came out, the temperature went up to the mid-60s, the Old Style was cold, and the Cubs lost to the Rockies. If the Cubs had won, it wouldn’t have been a complete experience.

2017 will be the Red’s season.
(Probably not)

Ima star this, but I shouldn’t, because I still have my Hershiser glove. Good ball is good ball, and even if LA doesn’t do it, it’d be a pretty special thing to see the Cubs go all the way.

Can you imagine the horrible sportswriting that would go down if that happened? Not saying it shouldn’t, but after the Cavs win, goddamn there would be some insufferable journalistic shitposting.

And I’m still wondering how the team with the 2nd most runs and bases didn’t even break .500.

Parents pull kids out of school all the time for baseball games ... or a whole day because they have a 30 min dentist appointment... or a trip to Target ... or mommy rushes to school because the little snowflake texted her and said they have the vapors ...

Should have set fire to it instead. Same effect, only the fire would have been entertaining.
